Abstract

Hypertension is characterized by elevated blood pressure: systolic ≥ 140 mmHg or diastolic ≥ 80 mmHg. In many researches, the acute effects that caused by smoking such as tachycardia and hypertension, because of activation of sympathic nerve system that cause the amount of epinephrine and norepinephrine is elevating in the blood. Many researches prove that chronic effects of smoking is hypertension due to increasing of inflammation agents, endothelium dysfunction, atherosclerosis, and vascular damage. The results of this study used a literature review and the aim was to determine the relationship between smoking and the incidence of hypertension. Search this article using the Google Scholar database and the Garuda portal with keywords with inclusion and exclusion criteria then reviewed. And from the three articles that were obtained, the relationship between smoking and the incidence of hypertension was only 65%.
