Abstract

Medicines have an important role in realizing health status. Until now, drugs sold in the community are divided into two types, logoed generic drugs and branded generic drugs. One of the active substances made into branded generic drugs is cetirizine HCl. Public knowledge about generic drugs is still lacking, many people also still do not know about BUD (Beyond Use Date) which can be interpreted as a time limit for the use or storage of drugs. Long storage time can affect the stability of the physical properties and content of the active substance. This research method is a laboratory experiment by testing the physical and chemical stability of generic cetirizine HCl with logo and generic cetirizine HCl with brand name, stability testing was carried out at 3 different temperatures for 28 days, including physical evaluation (organoleptic, ph, viscosity, volume moved, and specific gravity) and chemical evaluation, namely identification of active substances. The results of this study are organoleptic tests on both drugs are stable. In the pH test, the stable drug is generic cetirizine HCl with a logo. In the stable viscosity test, namely the generic cetirizine HCl drug with the logo. In the volume moved test, both drugs are stable. In the type weight test, the stable drug is generic cetirizine HCl with a logo. In the active substance identification test, both drugs were unstable on day 28. If entered into the frequency distribution formula, the generic cetirizine HCl labeled drug showed 83.3% stable category and 16.6% unstable category. Meanwhile, the branded generic cetirizine HCl drug showed results of 33.3% in the stable category and 66.6% in the unstable category. Based on the results of the evaluation of the physical and chemical stability (qualitative) of syrups generic cetirizine HCl with logo and generic cetirizine HCl with brand name, it can be seen that the generic cetirizine HCl with logo drug meets the requirements of the physical stability test standard for Cetirizine HCl syrup preparations with organoleptic test results, pH, viscosity, volume moved, and stable specific gravity
